Pocket Primal Fire kit
The Pocket Primal Fire Kit is built around one simple idea: carry the essentials, but know how to use them.
At the heart of the kit is my Pocket Primal. It features a 2-inch cutting edge with an overall length of 3.75 inches. It’s more than just a cutting tool. The hardened spine also serves as a flint and steel striker, throwing excellent sparks when paired with the included flint.
The Pocket Primal can be used several ways. Lash it to a shaft as a small spear, or compression haft it into a wooden handle for a more traditional grip. The included 6 feet of jute twine is perfect for hafting, but it also pulls apart into excellent tinder for starting your fire.
Each kit also includes:
- Pocket Primal blade/flint striker
- Natural flint
- 6 feet of jute twine
- Charred cloth
- Reusable metal tin
Once you’ve used the included char cloth, the tin can be used to make more, giving you a simple way to replenish your fire kit for years to come.
One of my favorite parts about this kit is that almost nothing goes to waste. Every component is reclaimed from materials already used in the Primitive Wilderness Survival shop. The Pocket Primals are made from the drop pieces left over from my XL Primal Blades. The char cloth comes from misprinted multipurpose cloths, and the flint is left over from making my stone knives and arrowheads.
Instead of throwing those materials away, they become a practical fire kit that fits in your pocket and encourages you to get outside, build your skills, and make fire the old-fashioned way.
